Each year, thousands of people of all ages participate in AmeriCorps, a national service program sponsored by the U.S. Government. AmeriCorps programs address needs and strengthen communities across the nation, and Camphill is proud to be a participant in this program. Participation in this program is limited to American citizens and legal immigrants only.
AmeriCorps members earn an education award of $4,725 after completing a year of service in a Camphill community in the United States and are eligible to complete a second year. Forbearance of education loans is available. This means that the Corporation for National Service, the federal agency responsible for AmeriCorps, will pay the interest accrued during your term of service.*
An Education Award can be used:
- To repay qualified existing or future student loans.
- To pay all or part of the cost of attending a qualified institution of higher education (including certain vocational programs).
- To pay expenses incurred while participating in an approved school to work program.
How to Apply:
To participate in the Camphill/AmeriCorps Educational Award program, simply state this intention while completing the Camphill application. AmeriCorps members are treated like any other new coworkers, although there are additional administrative requirements with participating in this program.
For further information, please contact the community you wish to apply to. For general questions, you can also reach the Camphill AmeriCorps program director at coworker@camphill.org or (518) 671-6832. Additional AmeriCorps information is available at www.americorps.org.
*Please note: Both the educational award and interest payment are viewed as taxable income under IRS law.
